TWO CREEKS consists of 25 acres located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, bounded on the north and south by faults and/or shear zones. Leisurely treks through the untouched hardwood forest unveil huge granite outcroppings and many plants to include the native azaleas currently abundant. Springtime bursts with trillium, bloodroot, goldenseal and buckeye, and Pipsissewa, wild ginger, Solomons seal, partridge berry, and persimmon can be discovered along with many other native medicinal plants. Numerous examples of a unique tree species, Symploco tinctoria, or 'Horse Sugar' tree can be observed.
We find so many different species of wildlife when we explore all the nooks and crannies. A gopher tortoise made an appearance at the bottom of the hill, and that huge heron makes us jump twice a year when he comes flapping out of the small creek. When we do get a chance, we like to take a look from the steep slope overlooking the creek bed that forms the northern boundary of the property. This is a large creek with small waterfalls dotting its course and the view is quite exceptional. One of the most relaxing times we find is when we are able to sit on the rocks or in the swing by the creek, listen to the water, and watch the red tail hawks, owls, and deer forage, hunt and nest. RESCUE. CULTIVATE. EDUCATE.
